Dinner today was a joy.
A salad with duck liver, mostly purchased by Lucy and I at the farmer's market. We followed up by Confit du Canard from France and plumbs also from the farmer's market. Etienne and I enjoyed a glass of 16 yr old Bushmills that I bought on a memorable, sunny April day, in the north of Norther Ireland. Then, to top it off, we all had mugs of lime blossom tea. It arrived this afternoon via the Eurostar, direct from Marie's uncle's garden.
Marie has also bought a hansom sauccisson and some tempting cheese. We have whole place in the fridge for tomorrow - recently landed in Essex, and some beautiful fruit and veg. Most interestingly, David has been offered rabbit in near unlimited quantities. I feel a stew coming on.
Finding the food yourself is much more effort, but it tastes and feels immeasurably better than the supermarket.
Liberty have the finest notebooks. Soft leather, thick frayed paper, and a gratuitously long leather wrapping binding hanging tie it in knots or just tuck it, every new note means more wrapping pleasure. Something about them just works. Beautifully.
For a mind that thinks in somersaults these books promise straight-line decisiveness.

This morning featured blue skies, the Good Times Sound System, and a realisation that I love my walk through Soho to work.
Almost enough to be pleased to return, after almost 5 weeks of glorious holiday. But not quite...
London has been a perpetual 20 degrees and cloudy since I got back from Edinburgh. I'm going back up there tomorrow for the TV festival, but it doesn't look like I'll miss much while I'm away! Was planning to come back in time for carnival, but I'm not sure I'll be in the mood if the sun doesn't come back.
I'm banking on a repeat of last year's warm September weather to cheer thing up a bit.
Just finished a few days at Central St Martins learning a bit more about taking pictures. The course was officially called 'Digital Photography: Taking Better Pictures'. Even the tutors hated the title - it suggests that it'll be all about using a compact to take holiday snaps. It was much harder work than that! There was quite a bit of technical advice about using digital SLR cameras, and touching up pictures with Photoshop. Most valuable for me was the chance to spend time with some really good professional photographers, and understand how they approach creating great images. Highly recommended.
I'll post links to some of my photos from the course in the next few weeks.
